Does this Administration Care About Teens?

I have learned over the years in my conversations with people that if I”m not careful, much of what I say can be very negative and I can get categorized as a “doomsayer.”  Many of us who fight for Liberty I’m sure go through the same experience.  It has taken me some time to learn to ask questions rather than give opinions in winning people over to my point of view.

While it is true that I write many negative articles about government spending or the Federal Reserve, these are economic related and just putting forth the truth for people so they can at least be enlightened as to what is really going on in the economy.

Many people do need to be able to distinguish between media hype, politicians and government related entities claiming the recession is over and congressional activity that will do more harm than good. I am happy to expose this through my articles at the expense of being labeled a “doomsayer.”

But to not be categorized as a doomsayer and to show that I am indeed a Patriot and inclined to want to help the situation in America, I decided to write the President and offer my 2 cents, which is now 4 cents after inflation, oops…there I go again……decided to write the President and offer my ideas on how to help Teen Unemployment.

An Idea To Resolve Teen Unemployment

I had already thought of an idea to help Teens as earlier in the year (2009) I was conversing with my 16 year old nephew who was trying to find a job.  Competition in the local area where he lived was fierce, so I came up with an idea for him to utilize in allowing him to not only help himself, but also help other teens in the area.

He ended up choosing a different path and I didn’t think anything of it again until I saw a CNBC report on Teen Unemployment in America in early December.  I didn’t realize the Teen Unemployment situation was as bad as it was (see letter below for the CNBC Teen Unemployment statistics).

My Letter To the President

It was then the Patriot in me decided to write to the White House.  I wanted to tell them I have an idea that could be implemented all over America in helping Unemployed Teens get work.  I would tell them I presently am not in a position to put something like that together by myself as I don’t have the time, nor the capital to take on such a project (I’ve spent the last 4 1/2 years researching for a book project “Fed Up!” and it’s been a tough road getting to this point but I’m almost finished.  My time and resources are dedicated to this project).

After doing some Internet research to find the President’s email address (I might as well start at the top right?), I sent the following letter to Barack Obama in hopes of opening up some dialect between the White House and myself in solving the Teen Unemployment Crisis:

To: president@whitehouse.gov

I have an idea that will help a certain segment of the unemployed. The following graphic was just shown on CNBC:

Unemployment Rate by Race Age 16-19:

Black: 49.4%

Latino 34.7%

White 23%

I have an idea to improve the unemployment picture for this market segment, but do not have the funds to bring the idea to mainstream usage.

As much as I’m against bigger government, I’m ok with the government using its resources (taxes) to fund programs that produce jobs that are not government related. This in turn would have a “return on investment” in tax revenue and keep idle kids off the street rather than committing crimes.

Naturally, any idea that can help improve employment, especially for the youth of today, would be something that could be implemented rather quickly if it is an idea that makes sense.

I just don’t know how to best go about this so I thought I would write and see what options are available.

I’m just one American who wants to make a difference and feel I can.

Sincerely,

Doug Eberhardt

It has now been 5 weeks and I haven’t received a response.  I don’t expect a response at this point either.

Does the Government Even Care?

So while I am negative in my articles about government’s wasteful spending and living beyond its means at the expense of We the People, and as the unemployment picture gets worse and worse for the youth of today, what will it take for this administration to listen to ideas that can help teens get jobs?

You would think that an email sent to the White House would be flagged as top priority to be read first if it had certain words like “unemployment” or “jobs” in it.  But no, alas, this administration can’t even see the name of a suspected terrorist on a no fly list or flag someone who pays cash for an airline ticket and checks no baggage.

Perhaps if I sent the email to the President with the caption “Al qaeda Threat?” it might get their attention and my email might get read… but then I’d probably make their no fly list, threat that I am in trying to help Teens get a job.

Note 1: If you have a contact at the White House, please forward this to them.  I truly do want to help!

Note 2: If you’re a teen or college student reading this, consider what you can do to let government know what’s on your mind by hooking up with Young Americans for LibertyOne person CAN make a difference!
